About me

Bible study:  (1) A detailed study of the Bible for the purposes of  supporting one’s predetermined faith.  (2) Mining the good book for random bits that coincide with what you already believe, and ignoring anything that disagrees  (3) A close reading of a bronze age collection of contradictory myths used to support things that science and common sense say are impossible; see Faith.

Atheist Bible Study: (1) A reading of the bible to see what it actually contains with as few preconceptions as possible.  (2) A search for the truth. (3) Kicking the Bible’s ass so you don’t have to.

Welcome aboard!

I am an atheist living in Bismarck, North Dakota.  I live modestly in a great neighborhood.  I like my neighbors, adore my son, and worship my wife.  I am the happiest person I know.  I wouldn’t trade my life for anyone’s.  I enjoy being me.  I would enjoy being a richer me, but certainly not with the sacrifices my family life would take.  I am honest and try hard to do the right thing.  I shovel my neighbors sidewalks and clean their gutters. I dig out their cars buried by snowplow and help rake their lawns in the fall.  We have them over for supper regularly, and I enjoy their company.  Fundamentalist Christians, observant Jews, and lapsed believers; I like them all.  I give to charity and believe we have a duty to others.  I consider myself a good person and good citizen and try to impart these values to my son.

And I do not believe!!

I recently discovered your blog. You’re a very entertaining writer. The bible is such a work of fiction, it needs someone with a good sense of humor to tell the stories. Thanks

  1. Started reading this stuff. Finding it hard to stop. Damn, it’s getting late! Have to get back to it tomorrow.

But if you have a chance, you might like to check out my old stuff at http://thingscreationistshate.webs.com/

  2. Hey,

Got here through a link on triangulations.wordpress.com.

I’ve been following another atheist reading the bible. He’s in proverbs right now. Have you seen his blog? http://biblecritical.blogspot.com/

There have been some good discussions, but nothing too our of control, yet…

I found the link to your site by doing a Google search on Father Talty. I found the comments you wrote about being an alter boy 30 years ago and Father Talty being a molester. I also was an alter boy 50 years ago. I looked up Father Talty because I thought he might have been a pediphile. I used to spend a lot of time with Father and as I look back I realize he did some stange things with me. I ran in track and my leg muscles were sore. I told Father about this and he said he could help. He took me to a big closet where he stored his vestments, had me drop my pants and underware I think, stand on a chair and he rubbed a lotion like BenGay on my legs. I was a little uncomfortable at the time, but completely trusted him. It was only later in life when I thought about this I realized it wasn’t right. I also remember he would have me set on his lap and let me stear his car. Again I didn’t think anything of it at the time. I remember him setting in a big chair in his living room and I was setting on his lap and he would rub his chin wiskers on my cheek. I remember how rough it felt. I’m not surprized to read your comments about him. I have never told anyone about this except just recently my wife.

I read your comment about Camp Dominic Savio and Father Talty. I attended the camp for two years around 1970. I have some disturbing memories of Father Talty. I have looked to see if any abuse was reported from the camp and there seems to be no record of it. I just wanted to know if you know more about whatever happened to him. Thank you!
